Intro: There were many lessons the Lord taught His disciples that their association with Him would inevitably involve.

 

1.  Following Him. (Mk. 1:17)

2.  Forsaking them. (Lk. 9:23)

3.  Focusing on men. (Jn. 4:35-36)

         

I.        Spiritual Warfare. (Matt. 10:16)

A.  Vast underworld of evil spirits. (Eph. 6:12)

1.  Disturbed at attempts to rescue their victories. (Mk. 3:27; 5:1-15)

2.  Dispatched to attack those resigned to discipleship. (Lk. 22:31-32)

     a. Warfare with unseen forces. (II Cor. 10:3-4)

     b. Warfare is winning the lost. (Jd. 22-23)

B.  Vile outer-world of evil snarers. (Jd. 3; II Pet. 2:20)

1.  The elements determined to victimize your Bible position. (I Pet. 3:13)

     a. Convictions about doctrinal truths. (II Pet. 3:15-16; I Tim. 4:1-2)

     b. Compromise those decisive tenets. (Tit. 3:9-11)

2.  The elements determined to neutralize your Bible position. (I Jn. 4:1-2)

     a. Contented friendships in biblical violations. (II Tim. 4:3-4)

     b. Consented fugitives in churches in violation. (II Thes. 3:13-15; Col. 2:8)

II.       Suffering World (Matt. 4:23; 9:36)

A.  Glimpse into anguish of the world. (Acts 10:38)

1.  Physical conditions: comfortless people need to know someone cares. (Ps. 142: 4; Jas 1:26-27)

2.  Spiritual conditions: Christless people need someone to have compassion. (Jd. 22-23; II Pet. 3:9; Ps. 126:5-6)

     a. Cold hearts of christians. (Ps. 142:4) I don't see need.

     b. Course hearts of churchmembers. (Rev. 3:15-16) I don't care.

B.  Grieved over apathy of world. (Jn. 5:40)

1.  The example of Christ. (Matt. 23:37; Lk. 11:52)

2.  The example of christians. (Jn. 20:21)

         PROVERBS 29:18

 

III.      Source of Power. (Acts 1:8; 10:38)

A.     The saviour possessed a force. (Mk. 5:30)

1.      Responded to needy: positive and negative met.

2.      Required unending dependence: vertical and horizontal met.

B.   The servant exposed to that force. (Jn. 14:12)

     1. The power exists for us. (Rom. 1:16-17)

         a. The word of God. (Heb. 4:12)

         b. The praying exercise: coupled with witness of resurrection. (Acts 4:31,33)

     2. The power exerted through us. (Acts 6:10)

         a. By faith in Him alone. (Heb. 11:6)

         b. By faithfulness to Him alone. (Pr. 25:19)
