Scripture: Numbers 18:1-8

 

Intro: The Old Testament service of God compares in a favorable way with the New Testament service of God in its approach and attendants.

 

  1. The priests: We are priests. (Rev. 1:6; 5:10)

  2. The Levites: We are servants.

    1. Salvation: Justification. (Acts 13:38-39)

    2. Service: Qualifications. (Acts 6:3)

 

ROOM (REHOBOTH) WAS BIG ENOUGH FOR THREE THINGS

 

I.                  The Servants of God Are Given Gifts. (Pr. 25:14; 18:16)

A.     There are office gifts. (Eph. 4:11)

1.      These are for leadership positions: God gives gifts. (I Cor. 12:28) Qualifications.

2.      These are for service places: Gifted ones given to the church. (I Cor. 12:27-28)

B.     There are official givens. (I Cor. 12:1-11)

1.      These are from the Spirit as He wills. (I Cor. 12:11)

2.      These are for the Saint to work where God directs. (I Cor. 12:7)

a.      There are sign gifts for apostolic days. (II Cor 12:12; I Cor. 1:22).

b.      There are service gifts for this day. (I Cor. 12:28)

 

II.               The Servants of God Are Given To Serve. (I Cor. 12:18)

A.     Christians have a gift: everyone. (I Cor. 12:27; 12:7, 11)

1.      The Body is muti-membered: of to church. (I Cor. 12:12)

2.      The Body’s members are equally important. cf church. (I Cor. 12:20; Ro. 12:6)

a.      Gift of helps: To support, encourage, pitch in. (I Cor. 12:28)

b.      Gift of ministry: To serve, involve, produce. (Ro. 12:7)

B.     Christians have a spot: Everyone. (Eph. 2:8-10)

1.      The Spirit has honored us with a talent to do God’s work.

a.      Great privilege: God gave it for your completeness in His will.

b.      Great responsibility: God’s work depends on it.

2.      The Saint honors God when his talent is given to do God’s work.

a.      What a great duty God has endowed us. (II Cor. 5:10)

b.      What a great disgrace done God when neglectful. (Heb. 2:2-3) 

 

III.           The Servants of God Are God’s Link To Society. (Eph. 4:11-13)

A.     To Teach the Saints: Failure breaks the chain.

1.      Perfecting: Equipping and efficiency. (Ps. 84:11).

2.      Work: Members and ministry. (Col. 4:5)

3.      Edifying: Blessing and building. (Jd. 20)

a.      Till everyone is in unity with God..

b.      Till everyone is in doctrinal soundness. (II Tim. 3:16-17)

B.     To Reach the sinners: Failure weakens the chain.

1.      Think about how you were reached: Someone reached out to you.

2.      Think about how you can reach: Same way you were.
