Scripture: Proverbs 1:10-33 

Intro: This instruction is a warning to put on an alert moral young people when approached in temptation to wrong-doing. The language of enticement is recorded to familiarize one with.

 

  1. Son: Singular - May have to go alone. First teaching is for a son. (Heb. 12:5)

  2. Sinners: Plural - Many will gang up on you. Sin travels in pairs. First warning of Proverbs is against bad company. (I Cor. 15:33)

 

I.                  The Pursuits of Sinners (Pr. 1:10-14)

A.     Their propositions: Enticements. (Pr. 1:10-14) Gross.

       1.   "Let us" of inhumanity. (Pr. 1:11)

       2.   "Let us" of indecency. (Pr. 1:16)

3.   "Let us" of irascibility. (Pr. 1:12-13)

4.   "Let us" of illegality. (Pr. 1:14)

 

B.     Their Dispositions: Entanglements. (Pr. 1:16-19). Greedy

1.      They are intent on hasting in evil. (Pr. 1:16)

2.      They are inventive in hurting each other. (Pr. 1:18)

 

II.               The Purity of Sons (Pr. 1:10,15)

A.     Refuse their invitations (Pr. 1:10; Ps. 1:1)

1.  Walk not (step); practice. activity.

2.  Stand not: position. attentiveness.

3.  Sit not: permanence. attitude.

B.     Refrain from their iniquities. (Pr. 1:15)

 

III.           The Problem With Sin (Pr. 1:20-33)

A.     The attributes it breeds.

       1.  Indifference to wisdom. (Pr. 1:20)

       2.  Insensitive to counsel. (Pr. 1:25,30)

       3.  Insulting to God. (Pr. 1:24-25, 29-30)

B.     The activity it brings.

1.      Simplicity in life. (Pr. 1:22,32)

2.      Scorning of good. (Pr. 22,29)
