Dr. Bob Sensat

Dr. Bob Sensat (1933-1992). Dr. Sensat was the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Jennings, La. when he went on to meet the Lord. He was known as husband, father, friend, pastor, teacher, a preacher's preacher and a man of God. As you read the sermon outlines and hear the messages you will soon see the passion he had for reaching the lost, prayer and studying God's Word.

Scripture: Esther 4:14; Hebrews 4:16

 

Intro: Why are you here? People need help. People need to rub shoulders with God's choice servants. People need to learn how to act and talk the way great servants of God do it.

 

1.  Soldiers learn from seasoned veterans. (II Tim. 2:3-4)

2.  Aprentises learn from professionals. (II Tim. 2:1-2)

3.  Christians learn from Christians: Carnal learn from spiritual. (I Pet. 4:10-11)

         

I.        What We Are (II Tim. 3:16-17) (Man of God)

A.  God gifted us. (Eph. 4:11)

1.  What gifts are. (Rom. 12:6-8; I Cor. 12:27-28; Eph. 4:11; I Pet. 4:10-11)

     a. Places gifts on some. (Eph. 4:11; I Cor. 12:4,7,11)

     b. Places gifted in services (church). (I Cor. 12:27-28)

2.  Who gifted are. (I Pet. 4:10-11; Pr. 18:16; 25:14; 19:6)

     a. God's servants who love. (I Cor. 13:1-3)

     b. God's spirit filled who served.

B.  God's gifts used. (Eph. 4:11-12)

1.  Perfection: KATARTIZO. Complete, render fit, restore as mending a net, right ordering, right arrangement. (Gal. 6:1; Heb. 13:21)

2.  Production: Work - ERGON. Employment, deed. (Heb. 6:1,10)

3.  Promotion: Edifying. OIKODOME. Building, numerically and strengthen. (Eph. 2:1)

 

II.      What We Do (Eph. 4:11) Subordinate order. (I Cor. 12:27-28; 14:40)

 A.  The pastor. (I Tim. 3:1; I Pet. 5:1,5-6)

1.  He feeds. (I Pet. 5:2; Acts 20:28)

2.  He leads. (Heb. 13: 7, 17)

     a. His church. (Acts 20:28)

     b. His concern. (I Tim. 3:15)

B.  The people. (Acts 20:28) Invited us.

1.  To reach with him. (Eph. 4:11-12)

2.  To teach with him.

     a. Not to try to correct him or do his work (counsel, wedge)

     b. Not to be cantankerous and schismatic.

     c. Not to feud or take issue here. Help him. (I Cor. 12:27-28)

III.      What We Want (John 3:29-30)

A.     Attitude. (Rom. 9:1-3; Acts 20:31-32; Jer. 9:1)

1.      Strengthen this work.

2.      Strengthen pastor's position.

B.   Activity. (II Tim. 4:2; Ps. 126:5-6; 142:4)
