Dr. Bob Sensat

Dr. Bob Sensat (1933-1992). Dr. Sensat was the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Jennings, La. when he went on to meet the Lord. He was known as husband, father, friend, pastor, teacher, a preacher's preacher and a man of God. As you read the sermon outlines and hear the messages you will soon see the passion he had for reaching the lost, prayer and studying God's Word.

Is Your Room Big Enough?

 

Scripture: Genesis 26:22-25, 29

 

Intro: Isaac moved into the territory of the heathen and established himself under God in a way that they recognized publicly that his testimony was sound. “Thou are now the blessed of the Lord.”

 

  1. He was blessed for Abraham’s sake: God blessed him because he had a great dad who he could look back to – that was a God blessed man.

  2. He was blessed because of what he did for God and this was widely recognized – there was a God blessed man.

 

ROOM (REHOBOTH) WAS BIG ENOUGH FOR THREE THINGS

 

I.                  BIG ENOUGH FOR AN ALTAR (Gen. 26:25a) – RESTORATION.

A.     He built it: COMMUNION. Gen. 12:7,8; 13:18; 15:9

1.      Some altars were for sacrifice. Gen. 22:13. Approach to God.

2.      Some altars were for fellowship. Gen. 12:8. Appear before God.

a.      place where a man would go to meet with God. Gen. 28:17,19

b.      place where God waited to meet with man. Gen. 35:7

 

B.     He used it: CONDITION. Gen. 26:29

1.      The house of God: altar for prayer. Mt. 18:19-20; I Jn. 5:14-15.

2.      The house you live in: altar for family. Acts 1631; I Tim. 5:8.

a.      Time of family Bible reading: supper table.

b.      Time for family belief: selected passages speak to children. Need it to off-set filth of secular life. Is your home big enough and are you big enough for this?

 

II.               BIG ENOUGH FOR A TENT (Gen. 26:25b) – RESIDENCE.

A.     Pitched his tent there = animal skins. (not canvas or tarpaulin.)

1.      His home spoke of his trust in God: sacrifice and blood: speaks of pilgrimage.

2.      His home spoke of his trust-worthiness for God: service and belief.

B.     Publicized his testimony there: altar spot. Gen. 26:29; Ps. 37:23.

1.      He lived so his family knew he was real: protection. I Tim. 5:8.

2.      He lived so his friends knew he was real: promise. Ro. 14:7-9.

3.      He lived so his foes knew he was real: provision. Ps. 39:1; Job 31:1; Ps. 46:1.

a.      Is your neighborhood big enough for your tent?

b.      Is your family big enough for your tent? 

 

III.           BIG ENOUGH FOR A WELL (Gen 26:25c) REFRESHMENT.

A.     Have you dug your well? Isa. 12:3 Jer. 2:13; Ps. 84:6.

1.      Did you dig it deep enough? Shallow? Struck water? Pr. 5:15.

2.      Did you dig it big enough? Secure? Sanctuary? Ps. 46:4.

a.      Do you frequent your well? Jn. 4:13-14.

b.      Do you draw from your well? Heb. 10:25.

B.     Where have you dug your well? Eph. 5:26-27; Jn 15:3.

1.      Where clean water runs out freely? Life should be clean. Eph. 4:29.

2.      Where clear water runs out fully? Life should be clear of contaminants. I Jn. 5:6,8; Rev. 22:17.
