Intro: The devil never ceases to challenge the Lord and His people, for he has a deep-seated hate for everything that is in total contrast to Him. (II Cor. 11:14; 11:3; Rev. 12:3)

 

1.  Snake to deceive.

2.  Dragon to destroy.

3.  Angel to disguise.

 

I.        Challenge His Titles. (Mt. 27:40,42,43)

A.  Title as Son of God: Personal. (Jn. 3:16)

1.  Satanic hostility to this name: Jesus. (Mt. 16:13-17; Jn. 1:49; 10:36)

a.  Despises use of title to Jesus. (Mt. 4:3,6)

1.  Satan’s son. (Gen. 3:15) Antichrist. (Jn. 17:12; 6:68-70; II)

2.  Saviour God’s Son. (Gen. 3:15) Christ. (Heb. 1:3-9)

b.  Despised use of title to Adam. (Lk. 3:38)

1.  Angelic realm enjoys title. (Gen. 6:1-2)

2.  Cherub lost his title at fall. (Ez. 28:14; Job 38:7)

2.  Satanic hostility to our name: Saints. (Jn. 1:12; I Jn. 3:1-2; Mt. 22:30)

a.  God is our Father by second birth: Transforms us from satan’s sons to God’s sons. (Jn. 8:44; Eph. 2:1-3; Jn. 3:3,5; Col. 1:13; Mt. 6:9)

b.  Devil is our allowed enemy for our right to this title. ( Rom. 8:14) We can’t lose it.

B.  Title as King of Jews. (Mt. 27:37; 16:16; Jn. 1:49; 27:29,42)

1.  The contrasts presented. (Ez. 28:14; Isa. 14:12-15; Jn. 18:36; 19:14; Rev. 11:15)

a.  Two kingdoms: Saviour’s (Mk. 1:14) Satanic. (Mt. 12:26)

b.  Two subjects: Heaven’s. (Eph. 3:15) Wicked. (Eph. 6:12)

c.  Two rulers: King of kings. (Rev. 19:16) Devil. (Eph. 2:2; II Cor. 4:4; Jn. 14:30)

a.  Satanic hostility to title “King”. (Mt. 4:8-11; I Cor. 15:22-26)

A.  Teachings about the temple: House of God. (Jn. 1:14)

1.  The temple: Four in word.

a.  Solomon’s: Glory. Zerubabbel’s. Ezra.

b.  Herod’s: One discussed in text. (Mt. 24:1-3)

c.  Tribulation: (II Thes. 2:1-3; Mt. 24:15)

d.  Millennial: Glory.

2.  The temple of Christ. (Jn. 2:18-20; Rev. 21:22)

a.  Destroyed temple: Death, but raised. (Jn. 2:19; Heb. 2:14; Rev. 1:18)

b.  Despises two other temples.

1.  The church. (I Cor. 3:16-17) Rapture – Resurrection from death.

2.  The Christian. (I Cor. 6:19-20) Sanctification – Resurrection.

B.  Teachings about His authority. (Mt. 27:42; 28:18; Jn. 10:15-18)

1.  The taunt: What He did vs. what He can’t do. He will not violate His purpose.

a.  They were right: He saved others. (Lk. 19:10)

b.  They were wrong: He could save Himself. (Heb. 2:9; Mt. 26:53)

2.  The truth: What He said vs. what they said.)
