Scripture: John 1:1-6

 

Intro: The memory of John draws from us an admiration that would do us all well to emulate. How do you wish to be remembered? (Ez. 22:30)

 

1.  He was a miracle. (Jn. 1:6; Lk. 1:13-17)

2.  He did no miracle. (Jn. 10:41)

3.  He had Jesus say the greatest thing about him when he had said the worse thing he could say to Jesus. (Mt. 11:3,8-11)

 

I.        Man of Conviction. (Esther 4:14)

A.  Conviction about truth. (Ps. 119:160)

1.  About the Bible: Word of God. (Ps. 119:9,11)

2.  About the Lord: Son of God. (I Jn. 5:4-5)

B.  Conviction about testimony. (I Cor. 1:4-6)

1.  In affliction. (Ps. 119:67,71,75) Not afraid of hard times. (James 5:17)

2.  In offence. (Ps. 119:165) Not afraid to stand.

a.  Know that God orders your steps. (Ps. 37:23-24)

b.  Know that God orders your stops. (I Thes. 2:18; Rom. 1:13; Phil. 1:12)

 

II.      Man of Devotion. (I Cor. 4:2; Neh. 6:3)

A.  Devoted to certain way of life. (Ps. 16:8; Acts 2:25)

1.  God’s desire: To reach. (Lk. 19:10)

2.  God’s method: To send. (Ez. 22:30)

3.  God’s agent: A man. (Jer. 12:11)

a.  Devoted to the Lord of Glory.

b.  Devoted to a life of good. (Jer. 6:16)

B.  Devout in certain work of life. (Neh. 6:3)

1.  Will not be delayed. (Acts 6:4) “We will give ourselves”. (Neh. 11:2)

a.  Who is so important as to take you from God’s task for your life? (Lk. 9:59-60)

b.  What is so important as to take you from God’s task for your life? “Me first

2.  Will not be deterred. (Acts 5:29)

a.  Stay in it: Involvement. (I Sam. 15:22)

b.  Stay with it: Inclusion. (Isa. 6:8; Heb. 12:2) 

 

III.    Man of Destiny. (I Sam. 1:28)

A.  Settled conviction God has a place for you. (Jn. 1:6)

1.  What God is searching for. (Ez. 22:30; I Cor. 1:26-29)

2.  Who God is searching for. (Jn. 6:37)

a.  Conviction that you will fit in that what.

b.  Conviction that you will be that who. (Isa. 6:8)

B.  Settled conviction about God’s place for you. (I Cor. 12:18)

1.  Will do what is necessary to prepare for it. (II Tim. 2:15; Heb. 5:12)

2.  Will do what is necessary to produce in it. (Heb. 6:1; 12:1)
